Two new JCB 3CX excavators are delivered to Nicolson Plant Ltd from dealers Scot JCB in Aberdeen. These two 3CX's will replace the existing ones that are based in the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal.

Since starting in 1972 Nicolson Plant Ltd has gradually expanded its operations from a father and son venture, to a competitive and successful business. We originated from the initial purchase of a Massey Ferguson 50 backhoe front loader. As Shetland's construction industry increased significantly, so did Nicolson Plant Ltd. To remain a successful business in the competitive plant hire industry, we have diversified into several different fields.

Our Sullom Mine is a hard rock quarry mainly comprising of Green Schists and Graphitic Schists. The quarry began as a mine in 1954 when a Canadian Group mined a magnetite ore-body which exists in the quarry. The magnetite was extracted, crushed down to dust then exported.

Connected through our plant hire division we undertake Civil Engineering Contracting. We carry out projects from large road schemes to simple house site clearance with values ranging from 0.5 M to 1 K.
